Compassion

So today, I take a look at "Compassion". With the changing of the guard, so to speak, of this week's Presidential Inauguration and all of the changes taking place in Governmental Office as a result, I think that compassion is a fitting topic of choice.

"Compassion is the basis of morality."
-- Arnold Schopenhauer

"The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government."
-- Thomas Jefferson

"Never apologize for showing feeling. When you do so, you apologize for the truth."
-- Benjamin Disraeli

"A good heart is better than all the heads in the world."
-- Edward Bulwer-Lytton

"The more you care, the stronger you can be."
-- Jim Rohn

"Without a rich heart, wealth is an ugly beggar."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Peace is not the absence of war; it is a virtue; a state of mind; a disposition for benevolence; confidence; and justice."
-- Spinoza

"I would rather feel compassion than know the meaning of it."
-- Thomas Aquinas

"Genuine politics -- even politics worthy of the name -- the only politics I am willing to devote myself to -- is simply a matter of serving those around us: serving the community and serving those who will come after us. Its deepest roots are moral because it is a responsibility expressed through action, to and for the whole."
-- Vaclav Havel

"Reason guides our attempt to understand the world about us. Both reason and compassion guide our efforts to apply that knowledge ethically, to understand other people, and have ethical relationships with other people."
-- Molleen Matsumura

"Compassion is a foundation for sharing our aliveness and building a more humane world."
-- Martin Lowenthal
